"Perdition's Portal" ... Overlook Motel, I'm gonna guess?

    Edit

    The four-in-one. The one-in-four.

Through the tome, you will know him.

    About the event itself:

Correct me please if I am wrong, but...

In Agartha, on the right hand portal (in front of NY portal) there's a quest "Quell the Curse" to be picked up as well as a "worn tome." This quest can be completed once every 8 hours (for members anyway) and awards a "Parcel of Eerie Attire." You complete this quest by killing one of the bosses (manifestation) the Rider summons in each zone (info below). However, just like other golem bosses a second quest will pop up every time you engage a boss and these give Rider's Satchel reward--based on participation.

    SUMMONING A MANIFESTATION:
    1. A message "A Rider has arrived" will appear when a rider has arrived. There's a portal in each zone with 5 candles around it. That's where the rider will be. If there's no horseman there, the zone isn't active.

    2. You must light the 5 candles around the rider for him to summon a man You light the 5 candles by killing rare mobs (or, in KM, clsing demonic portals) randomly scattered throughout the zone--so yes, you have to go find them, don't just stand around the altar waiting for the boss summon. Each zone seems to vary as to the number of things to kill to light each candle--if you don't light the candles in a certain amount of time (seems around 20 minutes?) the Rider will leave the zone.

    3. When all 5 candles are lit a message "the summoning is complete" pops up and a manifestation is summoned near the Rider's altar for us to kill.

    OTHER PARTS TO THE MYSTERY:

    - The mobs that are we are required to kill drop 'essences.' When used, these reveal hidden text of the tome picked up in Agartha.

    - People have mentioned seeing things when in anima form when a manifestation dies.

    - Manifestation bosses give lore.

    - The Riders have different clothes in each zone (assuming the Four(-in-one) Horsemen).

    - Gold Rating bags for the automatic mission give Effigies and Photos...

Lagspike is collecting information about 1. Rider Altar Locations, 2. How to light each Zone's candles, & 3. What the hidden text looks like after having used an essence into a Google Doc

-The rider can despawn, summoning no boss, even with all five candles lit. Really frustrating.

-Spooky Stories are back to awarding their original loot -- the Penny Dreadful sacks -- but The Broadcast is dropping 2015 bags. Haven't done Cat God or Seven Silences (if someone has, please share what their loot is), but it seems possible there may not be any way to get 2014 bags outside of the cash shop.

    Update from TheSecretWorld on Twitter:
Due to an issue, the text for the Weathered Pages are now revealed.
The rider appears. The ritualists find the illustrated place.
Withing the illustration hides the number of ritualists.
One amongst them must be annointed to validate the ceremony.
All ritualists in their place worship as one, and the anointed one sacrifices the totem to the rider.

There's a third line below the second.

Looks like it starts "When persons <something> and the" and ends with "stands". There also seems to be a single word underneath this line.

Might link to some source material, there's some stuff in that description that fits

A great deal of this success came from the carefully crafted image Old Gods of Asgard and their material – a curious mix of heavy rock, Norse myths, strange urban legends and fantasy – presented, and their bona fide hits, like “The Poet and the Muse” (The Black Rider Cometh, 1976) and “Children of the Elder God” (In the Valley of My Shadow, 1978) earned them mainstream popularity.

Hmm... My mind immediately jumps to the Headless Horsemen or the Four Horsemn of the apocalypse.

Hmm, I just had a thought...

Four Horsemen... four areas of the world in TSW...

What if there's one Horseman for each locale?

If so, here's my guess for assignments:

Death = New England (zombies everywhere)
Egypt = War (Marya vs Atenists)
Transylvania = Famine (Vampires always thirsting, town under siege lacking supplies, etc.)
Tokyo = Pestilence (because it's the area most affected by the Filth)

With the new clue, I think the Headless Horseman is quite likely. I agree it seems to point to The Savage Coast, near the Hell portals (although, arguably, the Four are still a possibility, with the black horse being famine).

But if it is a Headless Horseman, which variation? Fallen Hessian? Dullahan? Dund?

Just had a thought: "Only the anointed eyes shall see." Maybe we'll have to be dead? Usually how that's we "see" other things in the game...

Dullahan, Dund, AND Horseman of the Apocalypse—all things are true And also I liked P-Dubs's breakdown, so... I'm gonna let it be true for a while to tide me over til Samhain officially starts.

I thought a pale horse too obvious, but I found translations for Revelations that link 'upon an ASHEN horse' which, yeah, fits, and behind him come hell.

SO maybe SC, COTSG, BF? And something else?

And only anointed eyes shall see-- Death, the pale/ashen/green horsemen

    https://allpoetry.com/The-Hollow-Men might be important

    » Spoiler
    We are the hollow men
    We are the stuffed men
    Leaning together
    Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
    Our dried voices, when
    We whisper together
    Are quiet and meaningless
    As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
    In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
    Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

    Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us-if at all-not as lost
    Violent souls, but only
    As the hollow men
    The stuffed men.

    So, scarecrows?

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
    In death's dream kingdom
    These do not appear:
    There, the eyes are
    Sunlight on a broken column
    There, is a tree swinging
    And voices are
    In the wind's singing
    More distant and more solemn
    Than a fading star.

    Let me be no nearer
    In death's dream kingdom
    Let me also wear
    Such deliberate disguises
    Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
    In a field
    Behaving as the wind behaves
    No nearer-

    Not that final meeting
    In the twilight kingdom

    - Bogeyman? Scarecrows? Rats coat, crowskin, crossed staves in a field, behaving as the wind behaves

    This is the dead land
    This is cactus land
    Here the stone images
    Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

I'm reading way too much into this, I think. But, Elliots Hollow Men might be of import in this investigation. Hell?

    Is it like this
    In death's other kingdom
    Waking alone
At the hour when we are
    Trembling with tenderness
    Lips that would kiss
    Form prayers to broken stone.

    Sacharrisa? Prayers to broken stone?

    The eyes are not here
    There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
    In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

Valley of Dying Stars? From the Valley to the Stars?

    Sightless, unless
    The eyes reappear
    As the perpetual star
    Multifoliate rose
    Of death's twilight kingdom
    The hope only
    Of empty men.

Only hope of empty men, the Filth? Looking at this stuff, and lining it up into this poem-- this was a inspiration point for TSW.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

That is officially the nerdiest fucking thing I've done on these forums. Seriously.

The second bit you analyzed would be revenants. They fit perfectly all the points you mentioned.
